Dating mylonitic overprinting of ancient rocks

چکیده

Abstract Deformation in shear zones is difficult to date because mylonites can preserve partially reset pre-existing isotopic signatures. However, be key structural elements terrane recognition, so an accurate estimation of their age important. Here we determine the situ Rb–Sr composition mica from major NE-SW trending mylonitic Archean Akia Terrane Greenland and complement this information with inverse thermal history modelling. isochrons indicate a dominant radiogenic-Sr accumulation biotite around 1750 million years (Ma) ago. Yet, magmatic titanite unreset yielding U–Pb 2970 Ma. These constraints require that directly dates fabric generation. The Ma mylonites, associated Proterozoic Nagssugtoqidian Orogeny, overprint crust widely regarded as preserving evidence early Earth horizontal tectonics.

Meteorite Scars in Ancient Rocks

In a previous paper ' the writers suggested that some rexplosion structures currently attributed to volcanism may actually record impacts of giant meteorites which fell during the geological past. It is the purpose of this article to show how meteorite craters and th eir underlying structures might be preserved, and to evaluate the meteoritic hypothesis as an 'explanativn for three structures w...

Exhuming Norwegian Ultrahigh-Pressure Rocks: Overprinting Extensional Structures and the Roleof the Nordfjord-Sogn Detachment Zone

[1] The Nordfjord-Sogn Detachment Zone(NSDZ) is widely cited as one of the primary structures responsible for the exhumation of Norwegian (ultra)high-pressure (UHP) rocks. Here we review data from the considerable volume of research describing this shear zone, and compile a strikeparallel cross section along the NSDZ from the Solund Basin in the south to the Sørøyane UHP domain in the north. Dating of Precambrian Metasedimentary Rocks and Timing of their Metamorphism in the Soursat Metamorphic Complex (NW IRAN): Using LA–ICP-MS, U–Pb Dating of Zircon and Monazite

Soursat Metamorphic Complex (SMC) in west of Takab city is one of the polyphase metamorphic terrenes in northern Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt of Iran. The SMC composed mainly of metasedimentary rocks associated with granitic intrusions. Based on metamorphic rocks, two metamorphic phases could be separate in the complex. M1 is representative of regional metamorphisms which varies from greens...
